The role:
As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a high-performing engineering team responsible for building and scaling a distributed, high-traffic backend platform. The role combines technical leadership, people management, and strategic decision-making, with a strong emphasis on cloud technologies, platform reliability, and modern engineering practices. You will drive technical excellence, foster team growth and ensure the delivery of robust, scalable solutions.
Requirements
- Several years of experience in software engineering, including leadership positions such as Engineering Manager.
- Proven ability to build, lead and develop high-performing engineering teams.
- Strong background in designing scalable, distributed systems and solid architectural fundamentals.
- Extensive hands-on experience with AWS and modern infrastructure technologies, especially Kubernetes.
- High level of empathy, with the ability to mentor, guide and support team members in their growth.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders effectively.
- A product-oriented mindset combined with strong stakeholder management abilities.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Platform Backend team and collaborate closely with SRE and Infrastructure/DevOps teams (without direct reporting lines).
- Ensure platform stability, performance and resilience under heavy transactional loads.
- Drive the design and scaling of high-throughput backend systems.
- Guide technical decision-making, review proposed solutions and uphold best engineering practices across distributed teams.
- Stay hands-on and up to date with key technologies such as AWS Cloud, Kubernetes and JVM-based languages.
- Mentor and develop the team, fostering a culture centred around cloud-native principles, microservices and distributed systems.
- Experience managing Platform or DevOps teams will be considered a strong advantage.
