Our client’s mission is to increase operational efficiency by reducing marine fuel consumption and making vessels more eco-friendly.

We are looking for a Development & Engineering Leader that can drive a key team within the business in terms of technical direction, productivity, and great outcomes.

Working within an Agile environment you will take a key delivery role within the business. You will be responsible for providing leadership to the Software team with particular reference to deploying a structured approach to the required engineering activities, the development of efficient ways of working, including individual and team development.

Our client is an international tech-oriented company that gathers some of the best optimisation, machine learning and software development experts around. We are looking for an optimisation platform leader / architect skilled in engineering and development roles to help them build and maintain their market-leading custom platform (using market-leading solutions as needed). Main responsibilities currently include design and creation of on-vessel complex route & speed optimisation solutions – and we now need to look forward and leverage this capability more widely in the market with a parallel set of products delivered via a web platform. We require experience in designing and enhancing on vessel and future cloud solutions, as well as familiarity with genetic algorithms as well as other approaches reliant on naval architecture.

Job position is leading a Scrum team responsible for developing and maintaining vessel optimisation products that power products and services.

Job Description / Role Purpose:

The Engineering Delivery Manager is responsible for running a software development team creating, extending, and maintaining SDKs, APIs and the platform (on vessel and web versions). In particular, daily activities include:

  • working closely with stakeholders and other teams’ members to identify the directions of development of the platform
  • converting requirements into user stories, while directing high & low level technical requirements
  • acting as a Scrum Master, performing all required agile ceremonies and improving the visibility of team’s plans, estimations and progress
  • collaborating with the Research Team to adopt platform to new incoming ML models and improvement ideas, while maintaining high performance, extensibility, and scalability
  • acting as a technical leader, mentoring junior team members, advising on proper software development practices and performing code reviews,
  • working with QA to define best strategy for testing
  • deliver integration of the optimization products into other on-vessel and main client platform
  • improve quality of optimizations and stratify product features for levels of user sophistication
  • improve quality of optimizations based on the combined product set (e.g. charts, ML)
  • improve the productivity and value-add of our shore-side routing teams and find ways to embed their tacit knowledge

Key responsibilities:

  • Leadership in terms of the art of the possible with regards to optimisation technology
  • Manage a delivery team using Agile methods
  • Define the operations & integration architecture
  • Deliver pragmatic solutions for client trials and demonstrations, explain results and data quality strategy
  • Innovate, agree and deliver the appropriate platforms for optimisation & algorithmic value in all the products
  • Provide a framework of standards, best practices and technological approaches
  • Guide and coach your Engineers to be their best
  • Work closely with the data scientists, marine specialists and Product Management to define and optimise the backlogs
  • Act as a site leader and role model for this Global Engineering team in the Warsaw office as well as contributing as a key member of the CTO’s international team
  • The candidate must also be confident in Agile (Scrum/Kanban) methods and KPI management
  • Hands on Engineer and Data expert
  • Manage releases of versions in the style of ‘formal versions’ that may be certified as well as the stream of CI : CT : CD for our cloud versions
  • Own a key relationship with our Chief Scientific Officer / R&D

To have success in this role, you should:

  • Architectural mindset to design and roadmap the platform direction
  • Have experience of the software development lifecycle, using an Agile methodology
  • Have a strong background in software development, integration, testing and release processes
  • Excellent communication for clear project and team leadership
  • Client relationship skills – users and technologists
  • Strong engineering capability in C#, .Net (WPF/WCF), C++ and Python
  • Ability to see the complexities in maritime and use our tools (charts, weather etc) to push our market leading product further ahead
  • Whilst mainly a back-end / embedded solution, interest in FE consumption of the technology
